Biodegradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate by a two-member facultative anaerobic bacterial consortium

چکیده

A bacterial consortium capable of degrading the linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) was isolated from the wastewater treatment plant. The bacterial consortium consisted of two members, Pantoea agglomerans and Serratia odorifera 2. Cells were grown evenly together in a minimal medium (M9) and nutrient broth (NB). The bacterial consortium was able to grow in the minimal medium containing LAS as the only carbon source. The percentage degradation of 200 ppm LAS by this bacterial consortium was better when cells were grown in NB (∼70%) than in the M9 medium (36%). Also, the degradation ability by the bacterial consortium was very much higher than by its individual cells. This work shows that the two bacteria complement each other in the degrading ability of LAS, indicating catabolic cooperation between the two consortium members. A c ©

Anaerobic and aerobic degradation of cyanophycin by the denitrifying bacterium Pseudomonas alcaligenes strain DIP1 and role of three other coisolates in a mixed bacterial consortium.

Four bacterial strains were isolated from a cyanophycin granule polypeptide (CGP)-degrading anaerobic consortium, identified by 16S rRNA gene sequencing, and assigned to species of the genera Pseudomonas, Enterococcus, Clostridium, and Paenibacillus. The consortium member responsible for CGP degradation was assigned as Pseudomonas alcaligenes strain DIP1. The growth of and CGP degradation by st...

Isolation and characterization of synthetic detergent- degraders from wastewater

The biodegradability of the principal component of synthetic detergent products known as linear alkylbenzene sulphonate (LAS) has been contentious, hence the need to evaluate its primary biodegradation by indigenous microorganisms in wastewater ecosystem. The native microbial consortium of a wastewater ecosystem found to utilize detergent components were characterized using standard and convent...

Histopathological changes of gill, liver and kidney in Caspian kutum exposed to Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate

The histopathological effects of Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate on the gill, liver and kidney tissues of the Caspian kutum, Rutilus frisii kutum were studied. The fish were exposed to three sublethal concentrations of anionic detergent, Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS) for short term intervals (192 h). Gill, liver and kidney samples were collected after 192 h of exposure to LAS and lesions we...

Synthesis of Liner Alkyl-benzene Sulfonate Nanoparticle Using Green Promoter and High Efficiency

In this study, linear alkyl-benzene calcium sulfonate nanoparticles were made using linear alkylbenzene. Calcium sulfonate nanoparticles are widely used as an additive in a variety of engine oils and have cleansing, anti-wear and anti-oxidant properties and anti-corrosion properties. In this method, a sulfonation set up was constructed and sulfonation reaction was carried out both directly and ...

Comparing activated carbon and magnetic activated carbon in removal of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate from aqueous solution by heterogeneous catalytic ozonation process

Activated carbon from pine cone (PCAC) was used as a precursor to prepare Fe3O4/magnetic activated carbon (MPCAC). Here, the removal of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) was studied using catalytic ozonation process (COP) in exposure to MPCAC. Subsequently, it was compared with PCAC. Moreover, the effects of solution's initial pH, catalyst dosage, and the time of ozonati...
